Boots Riley is a cofounder of the hip hop group The Coup, as well as the group's primary producer, arranger and songwriter. Together with DJ Pam the Funktress, Riley has helped The Coup's sounds evolve, from early 90's Afroethnicity to 21st century Raptivism. They have released four award winning albums. Riley was raised amidst political action in Oakland, California, where since the age of fifteen he's been involved in organizing and inspiring youth. On February 22, 2017 Boots Riley and SFAI's own Sampada Aranke (Assistant Professor in the History and Theory of Contemporary Art Dept.) were in conversation about his work. This event was co-sponsored by CODE and Food For Thought.
